Music Video Rough Cut 3 and Feedback

door knocking- why is she knocking if she is already at the party?
storyline is unclear between the two main characters
dim the lighting of the end scene
make it more outrageous

Amber looks great and fits the role well
Dancers look professional
Range of shots used and steady shots used

Feedback from target audience:

- The party looks fun and exciting
- The party doesn't look set up
-The flares are great and effective

-The storyline needs to clearer not easily followed
- add in some dirty looks when she walks in to show outrage she has crashed the party

From gaining this feedback, we can now see where we need to make adjustments in order to reedit tis video to make sure all of our audience can easily follow our narrative we are trying to set and aren't confused throughout the entirety of our storyline. Ensuring that all of the feedback given is used and we give the audience what they want to see.

Final Location Scouting for all 3 Products - Frank

For our film we have 5 final locations where our music video has been filmed as we wanted not just have one theme for the video being the party as we wanted to divert some shots to outside the party as the narrative is taken away from the party itself. our first location is Lizzie's house, we have used this location to film the party scenes with the entry of the artist and the video keeps going back to the artist ad the rest of the party having a good time. We used a house to film this section as we needed a small area to compact people in so it has a party feel to it, also our demographic we have house parties so having it set in a house means that more demographics can relate. We also used a road outside lizzies house to film Amber(artist) and her friend on their way to the party and leaving the party. To add to this we used lizzie's back garden for the dancing elements of the video as we need space for the dancers routines. We have used of the shots above for all three of our products.

We used a white screen which I have previously mentioned, this is a white paper background in  our school which can be used to project images and other things onto it . We used it as a white background instead of adding images in the background as it looks like a photo-shoot and its different to other artists and generic conventions due to not adding wild and colourful images. We also used this screen for our other two products due to it being easy to edit out the white screen to add more detail to the digipak and magazine advert.

We used the fireworks from our school event to be included in our film and we also included a still photo of the firework once exploded. We have used this image on our digipak as it is very colourful and fireworks gives of many connotations that we would like to give off to our target audience and we want it to relate to the theme of the video. This shot has also been used to divert the narrative away from constantly being in the house party.

Animatic storyboard- Lizzie

Once we had finished the main bulk of planning for our music video, we then decided to complete an animatic storyboard. This is showing the storyboard with the music playing over the top, showing when each shot will be in the video. It gives us a brief idea of the shot planning and will help to keep track of when each will be.

Lighting Notes - Frank

We have various different locations for our video. When we was in the house shooting the party scenes we had low-key lighting throughout as we had the people within the party dancing in the shadows and with the close ups there is visible shadows. We had the lighting like this to give the party atmosphere as we wanted it to look genuine so the target audience can relate to it more rather than them thinking it was staged. Along with the low-key lighting we had multi-coloured LED lights to also create a real party atmosphere. We had the artist leave with the boy in the natural light during the day to connote they have there all night.

Our shots outside with the flares had natural lighting as we shot it in the day so the flares would be more visible and wanted to make them as clear and colourful as possible so the audience connects the colourfulness with the theme of the video. We also dimmed the background through post-production to make it look darker as we wanted to keep up with the continuity of the video as the party was stages at night so didn't want to make the narrative and the diverted shots from party to confuse the audience. We also used natural light with the fireworks. This is due to the fireworks giving off large colour themselves so no added light needed. Example of natural lighting used in a music video below.

We used high-key lighting when we shot the artist in front of the white screen as we wanted the white to be prominent colour as this will make the other colours stand out. This is also due to having no shadows visible in these shots. An example of a high-key shot being used within a piece of media below.

Digipak Draft 2 - Ashley

Feedback from teachers:

Change the colour of the writing on the back
remove the 'song list'

Feedback from friends:

Love the close up image of Amber with the lights on her face
One of the spines isn't purple
Can't really see the white writing

Magazine Advert draft 2 - Frank

Feedback- the feedback given was that our draft magazine advert fits our genre of pop very well due to the colour of the background and the image the artist is giving off. We need to change the fonts colour as we want it to stand out to gain the audiences attention. We also need to consider the other fonts due the current font is looking simple and this doesn't go with our genre pop. Finally we need to consider the other spines.

Your Favourite Music Videos and Why- whole group

Frank
My favourite music video is 'waiting all night' by Rudimental. There are many elements to this video that make it so intriguing. The narrative of the video is a keen BMX rider has a fall where he loses his legs and the video follows him throughout his recovery showing his friends helping him. The video also shows his desire to ride a BMX again and shows his struggle to do so. To add to this, this video hasn't got actors as this is a real story and is following a real recovery from injury to do what he loves again. This makes the video better as it is showing raw emotion and not put on ones,
this engages and audience including myself. As the narrative is very different we can only take concepts of editing in our video, we will edit similar to this as the beat of the music correlates with the paced editing and the amount of shots. To add to this there point of the narrative also is in time with music and we want this in our video.

Ellie-
Birdy- People Help The People
The reason this is my favourite music video is because I like the location choices she has made throughout the video and the actual song speaks of people helping each other and makes you really think about unity and helping one another. I also like the message within the song and the remaining message of how fortunate you are after the video for having people around you who love and care about you.

Ashley-
My favourite music is Beyonce's Formation- high p value, deep meaning
This is one of my favourite music video as this video has a deeper meaning to it and it is a staple for black power. This music video was released when the black lives matter campaign was at its hype. I also like this video because it shows it represents all of the minorities and all of the different type of people in the world that people usually dismiss. The video also goes back in time and this can be seen through the camera used as the camera quality is very bad. Representing what it was like for beyonce to grow up in a world of being inferior to white people. This video also touches on all of the major events in the world like the New Orleans flood where the police car can be seen to be sinking. Real footage of hurricane Katrina hitting New Orleans was included into her music video from a Sundanese film documentary. The video also touches on self-love which is also complemented by the lyrics "I like my baby hair, with baby hair and Afros. I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils." These lyrics represent self-love and how you should feel blessed with the things you are born with. This is also a common theme throughout Formation as Beyonce rocks a plethora of different black hair styles, including her own Afro. It also goes to tough on the slave trade and Martin Luther King Jr. Finally the true deeper meaning behind the song and the meaning behind Formation, talks about women's rights and how in hard times women need to band together and 'get in Formation' to help each other through what ever each of them is going through. Beyonce is a real Feminist which can be seen through her real life and her songs with the rise of the female superstar and the the increase of independent woman.

Lizzie-

New rules – Dua lipa

As a feminist and believer in women rights, my favourite video is New Rules by Dua Lipa. This is because the video promotes girls working together to stop allowing the boy to take over and control what females do by their words. I also enjoy the video as it has interesting imagery, such as flamingos which makes the audience think about what the meaning could be for that. Overall, it is a colourful and upbeat video which makes it enjoyable as there is a lot to watch.

Location Scouting- Frank

We have many varied different options for our music video, as we are conducting a party we need to film in a tight space like a house, therefore one of our house can be used in filming to include sections of the party. We are also including the road outside the persons house to film the artist and her friend to walk in to the party. Our options are below. We chose a location like this due to the concept of a house party is popular within the demographic we are targeting as we are looking at teens and young adults so they can relate to the song and give the audience a good feeling.

We are planning of having sections of the video to divert from the party with shots of the artist and the rest of the party roaming around in the public, this is with flares therefore it would be best to do this in walk ways and areas that are not surrounded by vehicles or by pedestrians so we won't cause any disruption to the public. Parks and areas like this will be the best options. We chose a location like this as our first idea was to have flares and the artist and the actors to appear wild and keep up with this theme. Therefore we want a large open space so we can carry these shots out.

We have a event at our school coming up which has fireworks and we have considered using shots of this and including in our video, this would be good as we could get great footage of the fireworks and not have to do them ourselves which can turnout to be dangerous. We chose to set a part of the video in this location to add a different element to the video rather than one continued theme in one setting and having the fireworks continues with the image of wild and young people, along with the colourful connotations of pop.

We have many facilities to use at our school and one of these being a white screen which can be used in various ways as things can be projected on this to create a party image, also we can use it to film the artist to add backgrounds using editing techniques. We also have a recording studio(booth) we could use this to film our actress singing into these microphones showing her recording for the song in the video. We chose to set a part of the video here as it gives us many options on what to do with the shots taken here as we can project stuff onto it and makes it easier for post production with all three platforms of media we need to produce.

Digipak Draft 1 and Feedback- lizzie

Digipak feedback
Maybe add two more panels
Record label logo needs to go on there
Move the "one night only crash the party" to her collarbone

Target audience feedback
- I like the theme, colours all compliment each other and follows through the whole digipak
- The font used is all the same and fits well with the pop genre
- Add more photos of the artist, to show her off
- Maybe add a different image on the CD cover, as it is quite plain

From this feedback, we will now be able to improve the digipak to be more liked by our target audience. We will use Photoshop to improve the images and quality of the digipak to ensure it will be better.

Ideas for Digipak -Group

(Ashley)
I have chosen this design this Digipak in this way because I think it fits the design I wanted our music video to look like. I went for a party and more up beat vibe throughout the Digipak in order to attract different audiences to my artist. This will allow my artist to increase income and success if this Digipak is able to attract different cool types of people and different audiences all over the world. I wanted to include a variation of images of my artist to make sure the Digipak is bright and keeping her  face as the centre of attention. I also kept the colour blue going throughout the Digipak as my artist has bright blue trousers on which draws the audience straight to her. I put the pictures of the fireworks in the middle of the Digipak to keep the theme of the party which is our idea for the music video.
(Ellie) i decided to do my design like this because i believe that the theme that we had already set with the magazine advert i had created fits well with this digipak. The idea of the balloons was to link to one of the songs that is being released on Charli XCXs album. Furthermore, the use of the glitter was to link to the idea of the 'purple glitter flying through the air' within the video. I also added three images of Charli XCX as she is the biggest tool marketing tool as she is well recognised. I used the swirly font as I believe this has links to a love letter text which is what is going to blossom within our music video.

(Lizzie) i decided to chose this design as it links with my magazine advert, as it includes the theme of lips and hearts. It also has images of the featured artist on the front and back cover of the digipak, with this bold writing of the artists name and album name. This makes it clear to the audience what the artists style is and who she is, which would make it more successful. This digipak also includes external images of themes linked to her style, such as the feminine lips and colours of pink. From using these colours, it also links to the target audience and how they would prefer their artist to be presented. This would then appeal more to a wider audience and become more successful.

Ashley- I chose to design this digipak as i wanted it to link heavily with my magazine advert as the same photo is used. I wanted this link because i want the audience to recognise the photo so it sticks with them. I have also included the shot of amber to continue the connotations I the pop genre due to the shot being a close up and makes her centre of attention like a pop-star should be. Also having the setting helps with audience making the links between the platforms. We decided to have many shots from the video to get the audience to feel they are all related.

Plot and Narrative Work for the Music Video - Ashley

A wild fun-loving teenager is accompanied to a party with her friend, they have the time of their lives, but do they leave together?
This statement sums up our music video because this is the short story of what we are basing our video around. We have chosen the song Famous by Charli XCX which is a song about partying and being outrageous. This is why we have chosen to set our music video in a house party. The reason why we have chosen to shoot the music video in a house party is being house parties can sometimes be rebellious with teenagers having a party in their house without their parent having any knowledge of it. Within the lyrics Charli XCX sings 'so outrageous' which ties in with the rebellious house party and the flare scene. We chose to add flares in one of the scenes because we felt that this was a clear representation of being outrageous and crazy. We added flare into our music video because we liked the idea of how they looked and what vibe they created. To link into the theme of being outrageous we decided to add in support actors to help the story line progress for example; the love interest between Danny and Amber. WE decided to have their love interest one of the main parts within the music video as we thought this would fit the theme and would also make the music video more enjoyable for our target audience. This was also added in so that it fitted with the outrageous theme as the story line depicts Amber stealing her best friends boyfriend.

Group Research into Music Videos by your Chosen Artist - Group

Charlie XCX -

Charlie XCX's music video's have a very 'childish' feel and look.

Charlie XCX- Boys

Representation-  This music video is different to all of the others. This is special because it goes against all of the stereotypes of women being sexualised in music videos through the main use of the Male Gaze Theory. The whole video is about breaking the female gender norms and stereotypes. Through the use of Mise-en-scene, editing and camera the gender stereotype is broken. Charli XCX is the artist who wrote and sang this song decided to use all famous men who are famous for all different reasons. This music video took nearly a year to film as she waited until these specific celebs where free until she chose to film. So she had to film all of the different scenes at different times of the year. Throughout the video she works to break the stereotype of how all woman are represented in society and in the media. She has used lots of metaphors and different props to represent these opinions, for example putting men in 'female' settings for example; Charlie Puth cleaning a soapy car in a provocative way. This is a stereotypical American image of women in barley any clothing cleaning a car which can be seen in many movies. However, there is also different types of representation in the video for example; when the man can be seen falling backward into a massive pit of balls. This could be representing how woman have to face all of the unwanted criticisms of the public and the media in regards to decisions they make. However, if a man were to do what they did they would have to face the same type of backlash as a woman would have to face if they did it.

Mise-en-scene- Throughout the whole video Charli XCX has chosen to use more feminine locations to shoot in, for example the pink screen that all of the male celebrities are seen to be in front of. This automatically sets the scene of femininity because in most male music video they stereo-typically have cars and things that would be deemed to be more masculine or attractive to males. This is why Charli XCX has chosen to place all of these male celebrities in a female setting to prove a point about sexism and breaking the gender norms and stereotypes. The males in the video are all seen to be wearing pretty 'normal' things for a male, jeans and a top. However, one male can be seen to be posing with a chain saw with his shirt off and a pink background. Mocking the way Hollywood sexualises everything a woman does. Furthermore, some of the men in some of the scenes can be seen to be wearing things that a woman would stereo-typically be seen in for example; One scene shows a man in a speedo again mocking the fact that woman are always shown to be wearing next to nothing. Not all but most props used throughout the video have been modified to be pink in colour for example; when the male rapper can be seen eating out of a pink cereal bowl and the male YouTube star can be seen smashing a pink object over his head, the pink water guns, basketball and tooth brush, just to name a few. Throughout the whole video high key lighting is used, this could be representation for the fact that society needs to shed more light on the inequality between male and females. Most of the sets used look like they have just used music video sets for example; the set of a garage door, the pink screen, the white screen e.c.t. The video doesn't use any outdoor types of locations and only focuses on the people in the video. This connotes that the Artist wanted all of the undivided attention on the story behind the video and the reasons portrayed in the video. This can be seen through the use of a lot of many different camera shot but most popularly the mid and close up shots.

Camera- Throughout the whole video the most favoured shots that are used a lot are the mid and the close up shots. The reason I believe the artist has chosen to do this is to make a point about the constant sexulisation of women in the media. We can see this by the shot of the male YouTube star the camera begins with a close up shot of his face and then the shot moves to an extreme close up of his eye and he is seen in a very feminine manor. This can also be seen by the back drop, he seems to be in place where there are lots of flowers which is again mocking how woman are always placed in the 'female roles' in society and how they are never seen to be independent or in a harsh setting like a scrap yard. The camera angles can also been seen to be very sexual and moving in a provocative way using the Male Gaze Theory to portray the point of the exploitation of women in the media. At the end of the video there is a high angle camera shot of a man falling backwards into a ball pit. This could represent how women have to fall backwards into all of their expectation and responsibilities.

Editing- Throughout the video editing can't be seen very prominently compared to how it was be seen in a film. However editing shows throughout the video there is an eyeline match between all of the males in the video. This could represent how they are all equal to each other or could also represent how all females are viewed in the same way. This could be hinting to how woman are always represented in the same way through the media.

Charli XCX and Iggy Azalea – Fancy

This video is known for its intertextuality, as it is based on and is nearly a replica of the film clueless. This is because it shows the two main characters to be dressed in the outfits the actors were wearing in the film. At the very start of the video, it shows the artist picking the outfit through an app on her iPad, which is the same concept as the film. This draws in the audience as they may want to see their music version of the film and how they do it. Which is positive for the video as it will then have more success.

This video is bright and full of colour, due to the wide use of costume and lighting. At the start of the video, the main artist and Charli XCX are shown to be in a school setting, which could relate to the younger target audience. It also has cartoon text displaying the artist’s name, which also links to the intertextuality. The use of the bright colours connotes the idea it is fun and fits their target audience well.  Meaning I am able to use this idea in my music video, as it shows she reflects the colourful image to her target audience. They use a wide range of shots as there are many close ups and medium shots or the artists throughout. As well as shots, there are some panning shots or dancers and the artists within the middle of the video. This makes it more interesting to the audience and allows them to keep watching. I will also use this in the own video as we want to show our skills and boost the success of the video.

The editing is clear throughout as it follows the normal conventions, as they are jump cuts throughout. They are also to the beat of the music which is professional and also allows the audience to keep the upbeat nature of the song. As well as the jump cuts, the lip syncing is well done, as it is always to the words and not out. Showing the professionalism of the video and makes it look better the audience.

Camera:
video opens with a long shot that acts as an establishing shot to establish the location of the video. This is a common theme seen in all media as an audience like to know the location that the text they are watching is taking place. The first shot of artist is a close-up. This gives us a quick introduction to the artist but her face is covered by writing on the screen. This is because it is more important what movie the song it is representing than it is who’s singing it. We then get close-up shots of both the protagonists from ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, which is clips from the movie. This is to introduce the audience to the movie that the song is representing. It also introduces the characters of the movie for those who have not been to see it.

Throughout the clip, a lot of shots are used to show off the setting of the video. a medium close-up which shows that Charli is on the same boat that the two characters go on in the movie. There is then a clip showing off the two characters on the boat, establishing a connecting between the performance and the narrative of the movie. Through this we can also find that the video is being set in Amsterdam, the same location an important portion of the movie was set. When the music changes style and begins to move slower, there is a change in the mood of the cinematography. Charli is shot close-up looking away from the camera, as opposed to towards the camera as she was before. Also it is harder to make her out because of the effects used. This was all done to reflect the change in the song which has become more alternative, meaning the video had to too.

Before she enters the bus, there is a long shot that establishes Charli sat outside of it, effectively establishing the location. However, instead of immediately cutting to the scenes inside the bus as it usually does and even then we don’t know it’s the same location until we later see a portion of the inside of the bus while on the outside of it. This breaks the conventions found in typical media pieces of having the location established and then following with a scene in that location, instead we have the location established and then a scene in there later on. There is a close-up shot of her hands clapping as she says the word clap. This creates a cohesion between the lyrics of the song and the action that is taking place on screen. The final shot is a long shot of Charli walking away. This signifies the end of the video.

mise

The setting for this video is on the streets of Amsterdam, the same place a portion of the movie ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ was set, creating a link between the two pieces. One of the settings predominantly featured in both the performance of the piece and the archive footage from the movie is on a river boat, which again creates a link between the movie and the video as Charli is taking the same adventure the two characters from the movie did. The lighting throughout the video is relatively light but has a slightly darker tone to it because of the theme of the movie it is representing. This sees a change when the tone of the music also changes. The lighting during this section of the video is darker and features lasers appearing over the screen. This is to represent the alternative nature of this portion of the song.
There is a contrast between the clothing and the lighting in this video. During the scenes when the lighting is brighter she is seen in more pop artist like clothes that are in brighter and more girly colours and patterns. However, during the scenes when the lighting in darker, she is seen wearing more edgy clothes that show off her alternative style of music. This done to create cohesion between the two areas of mise-en- scene.

the editing in this video fits the pattern found in most other music videos, that it is in time with the beat of the song. The part of the video with the fastest editing is during the chorus when many shots are cut together one after the other. This is typical for the chorus of a music video as the chorus of the song tends to be the part of the music video when the song is at its fastest beat. Each of these shots usually change location and costume, suggesting the video is more about the performance of Charli than about a narrative which would have a few cuts in the same location follow after each other. During all this the editing used is jump cuts which is the typical form of editing. In the third verse of the song the editing changes to a dissolves as opposed to the conventional cut. This is because of the third verse of the song being more alternative than the others and the use of dissolve is something that is conventional in alternative music videos.

Another type of editing used in the video is text and images appearing on the screen. The text that appears looks hand drawn but it will have been added through a computer software. By doing this more references to ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ has been added because the style and font of the text is the same as the text featured in the film. Also some of the text used relates directly to the film such as the use of ‘Okay? Okay.’ which is a slogan for the film. Text appears in many music videos, usually at the beginning to tell the audience the name of the track and the artist. In this case the text appears throughout the video as opposed to just at the beginning. Another form of editing featured in the video is the use of special effects appearing over the top of the video. A colourful spotlight effect appears over the top of the more alternative part of the video, again fitting in with the genre by creating a weird atmosphere. This is also helped by the lights that appear on Charli’s face during this bit.

Charli XCX - Break the Rules

Break the Rules was written in 5 minutes in a car park and recorded through her phone. She wrote it as she wanted to live out a weird fantasy in her head as she never actually attended her school prom because she was naughty. The song was written in a song camp with people she isn't close friends with which actually made her anxiety kick in as she only usually works with people she knows. She was shocked when it was released as a single as she actually hated the song and said "anyone who listens to this is an idiot" and four months later it has been released as a single.

Within the Mise- en Scene Charli XCX presents her feminist views well the women are seen as sexualised objects when entering the lingerie shop in school outfits which hits her young teenage audience perfectly as they can immediately relate themselves to her as they too go to school . Furthermore, the use of the Male Gaze Theory is used upon Charli XCX from the man leaning over the till looking at her from bottom to top. This girls a seductive feel to the female characters as they are wearing short skirts, shirts with buttons undone, loose ties or none at all. This would relate young girls to them as they believe this is what boys want to see and boys would like this music video as they would be attracted towards girls with all their make up done, silky smooth hair etc. The most important factor being the male gaze theory as she is a strong feminist and believes women are equal to men but her character is being used as an object as she looks good.

There are several powerful representations within this music video the first being that the teacher is a women as women are seen as housewives not in successful careers right at the top of the schooling hierarchy being able to control wreck less children 'breaking the rules'. However, Charli XCX has chosen to put a women in charge. Rose McGowan looks powerful and strong in her stance in the video. Secondly, sexuality plays a role in this music video as the two homosexual girls are 'breaking the rules' by kissing and this shows Charli XCX believes that you can choose to love whoever you want too. Which is a powerful positive message to be able to send to such a wide audience. Finally, the fact that the girls are the ones being deviant none of the boys are causing trouble the girls are the ones turning up late to prom going crazy etc. Showing Charli XCX hasn't stuck to none of the normal stereotypes. So therefore, feminists would really enjoy this video.

Within the shots the most important shots were firstly, when Charli XCX was being truant upon the bus and being completely outrageous as it out of the ordinary for girls especially to act in this manor. The use of the low angle shot made her dominate the shot and look powerful which is what she was hoping to create. Within the party the high angle shot of the teacher looking down upon the students made them look minuscule and less important than herself which showed her authority over the mass of children. The use of the eye line matches between Charli and other teenage girls showed their equality and did too spread her message of girls and boys being equals.

The editing- the use of the text upon the screen was something that would have been added in after the music video was created which is something to consider during my own video as it actually creates quite the effect for the audience as they can pay attention and take note of the key character. The use of lip syncing is always in time which leads to an overall better music video as everything is moving at the same speed , both images and sound. There was also the image placed in of the teacher which allowed us to absorb who she actually was for several seconds and allowed us to realise her importance within this video.

The outrageousness within Break the Rules is something we will use in our actual music video as both of these videos are aimed at the same target audience as Break the Rules is about school and prom and the same within our actual music video Famous. We can use the lyrics of 'what trouble can we find' alongside shameful and outrageous within Famous as similar to the Break the Rules video as they are both based on one crazy night. We can include the use of upbeat music, the balloons and the crowd of people to create the party feel we need for our actual video from this analysis of Break the Rules.

We will use some ideas for Charli XCX's video's such as the party theme and the childish type of style throughout. We have chosen to do this because we liked the way this attracted the same type of audience as we were aiming to target. We were also found of how up beat all of her songs are and how they always seem to be up lifting especially with the visuals of the music video. We liked the style of how the video for 'Break The Rules' was filmed with all of the teenage cast acting up and being outrageous. Although Chalri XCX is a British artist she always seems to have an American vibe running through all of her music video's. We got inspiration from this and this is why we wanted to go for a house party theme with red cups, which are a very iconic things for American films that contain house parties. We also liked the idea of the dance break in the music video for Fancy f.t Iggy. We got inspiration from this so we decided to plan a dance break within the video . We wanted to include this because we thought it was a good idea to keep the audience focused and interested in our music video. We also wanted to add the same time of dance break to give the video a little more diversity.

Music Video Rough Cut 2 and Feedback - Ashley

Music Video

What works well
Amber looks fab
The flares in a darker setting is better

Things to improve
Wobbly camera at the end
Continuity - are they meant to be arriving/leaving the party during the day?
Still want to see her crashing the party and looking outrageous You can tell Megan says " get it out of my face" in relation to the flare! Plus why is Olly on his phone in one scene?
Focus on some shots at the end - the focus is out

Audience Feedback
- I liked the flares scene, because it added a dramatic atmosphere to the music video and made me feel like they were acting reckless and outrageous. However, i didn't like the the door knocking because it looked like it was in the day and also you wouldn't knock when you were gate crashing a party, like the lyrics stated she was.
- It was beautiful and i enjoyed watching it because it was unique and i was intrigued to find out more about the story line of the music video.
- The narrative was unclear between the main characters. It looked as though it was awkward between Danny and Amber (the tow people who played the main characters) it was also unclear who was an extra and who was a main character. Another part of the video you could improve was the entrance of the main character, When Amber came through the streamers no one looked, they all had their heads down and didn't take any notice of her entrance. This doesn't link to the lyrics of how she was crashing the party because no one looked as though they knew who she was.
- I liked the scene where Amber was in front of the white screen. This made the music video looked as though it was very professional and gave it a realistic feel of a music video. I also liked the connection between the explosion of the balloon and the fall of purple glitter. This matched to the lyrics of "purple glitter flying through the air" however, I feel they could have added more glitter to make the purple glitter more prevalent.
-The set of the party, including all of the decorations eg. the balloons and the lights, fitted well with the story line of the video and made it clear what was happening. This made the story line easier to follow as the sets and the locations used where clear and gave an indication of what was happening.

The Audience feedback we received will definitely help us with creating new scenes and improving the video we already have./ With all of this Audience feedback we have also been given the chance to see what our target audience really want and what they would find most entertaining if they saw it in our music video. By gaining this audience feedback it will also help us in making specific scenes clearer and help us magnify the story line a little more as our audience feedback found that people found our narrative a little unclear. now that we have gained an outside opinion it means that we will now be able to act on the feedback we have received, from both our target audience and our teachers we will be able to make the best video we possibly can.

Casting/ Audition information - Ashley

When we were brain storming ideas for our music video we also had to think about the type of artist we are going to have in our music video. We chose to use the song Famous by Charli XCX which meant that we had to consider a female for the lead role. We had many different people in mind for the main role which meant that we had to trial and practice with all of the many different people to see what it would turn out like if we were to use them in our music video. Through all of the considerations of who we were going to use we decided to use Amber. We chose Amber because we felt that she was the best person suited for the role because of her look and her ability to lip sync successfully. We also chose her because she also fits our target audience perfectly and would be the best candidate to draw in all types of audiences, as well as looking the part. We trailed many different people to be our main character in our video but we didn't feel that their image or their lip sync ability fitted the part as well as we wanted to. After we chose Amber as the main part we had to decide who we were going to cast as the supporting cast. We had a clear vision of what type of people we needed to cast for these roles, so we set out trying to find these people. At first we only cast Danny as the love interest in our music video. We did this because we felt that he fitted the role of our interest as he looked the part and we felt that they looked like the stereotypical couple. However we then decided to cast two more people as the support cast as we felt adding two more people in would fit the lyrics of the song well, about the main character stealing someones boyfriend. This is when we decided to cast Annabelle and Olly, we cast these two too play a couple at the party. However, we also cast these two to be the friends of Amber and Danny to make the story line have a little more continuity. We feel we successfully achieved casting the right type of people for our video because the continuity and flow of the story line helps the music video progress in a seamless way. For the party we decided to cast many different extras, consisting of both males and females to fit out target audience. We chose these extras by asking our school friends to come along in party wear as we would set up a mock house party. We had to have different types of people in the house party scene so we would be able to accurately represent our target audience. This would enable us the target the most amount of people as possible so that our target audience would feel accurately represented through our music video. the casting had to fit the whole of the music video and the plethora of different scene we wanted to achieve throughout the video shoot an example of this would be, that we had to carefully select the people we wished to have in our flare scenes because we needed to have the equal amount of males and females just like the house party scenes. However, in our dance break scenes we decided to use all female dancers because we believed it would look best with all females as this scene could be completely based at drawing in the female audiences as it meant that would could make these scene very feminine.

Throughout the whole process we all felt that casting was a very smooth and easy process as we didn't have to cast a lot of many different people for different scenes e.c.t. This meant that we were able to spend more time on the actual production of the music video, enabling us to perfect our scene to make them look as good as possible.

Draft Storyboard - Frank

Having this draft storyboard will help when making our music video as it gives us a starting point for a filming and gives us a base idea which we can expand. At this point this was our draft of the entire video, as we are looking to add many more ideas and concepts to different shots and narrative.

Shotlist for Digipak - Frank

Panel
Shot type
Location taken
Reason
Front cover panel
Mid-shot
School in front of the white screen.
To include the whole artist in the shot to promote her as pop stars do this.
Back cover panel
Close up of wall(has song titles)
Lizzie’s house(party setting)
We used this shot to showcase the lights used in the party with lights on the wall
3rd panel
Close up of artist
Lizzie’s house
This is another way to promote the artist, also we want to link all three platforms together and this photo was taken at the party and is linked to another panel.
4th panel
Mid-shot of artist
School(white screen)
This shot was used so we could include the artists body language to have the audience connote what that means for the video.
5th panel
CD holder,(shot of wall and light)
Lizzie’s house
This links in with other panels in the digipak, also links with other platforms we have created.
6th panel
Close up of artist
School(white screen)
We want multiple close ups to promote the artist in many ways and give off the pop star image due to the connotations close ups have.

This will help when making our music video as it will make the production easier due to the group knowing what shots we need for the digipak when we are taking shots for our other platforms.

Music Video Rough Cut 1 and Feedback

What works well
Amber looks the part!
Some nice steady shots
I like the dancers!

Even Better if
Make sure the lip sync is all correct
Why are they having a party during the day? Can you darken the colour?
Why are they with flares during the day?
Feel you need to show them being outrageous a little more!
Show her "crashing the party!"
If you finish it!
More of the dancers and Amber would be great
Add more varied locations
It needs more content

Feedback from target audience:

- I like the range of shots used, it is very interesting to see
- The party looks realistic
- I like the shot of the lights

- It isn't a full music video
- The boy isn't very clear (narrative)
- Lip sync is slightly out

From gaining this feedback, we will now take these into consideration when reediting the video. As a group, we will use each point stated above and change it accordingly, to ensure the video is improved and what the target audience want to see.

This table shows a rough idea of shots we are planning to use for our magazine advert. We have included both long shots and close ups to give a range to work with, however a long shot is most commonly seen on a magazine advert. This allows us to know what is needed to complete the photo shoot and get the shots we need.
